We offer high-quality Lexan as a stronger, more flexible alternative to traditional glass.
Our team at First Class Glass and Overhead Doors has been repairing, installing, and replacing glass for over ten years now, and we have more than mastered the skills required to do so. However, over the years we have also learned there are many applications for which glass is not the ideal material, so we now offer alternatives instead. For example, if you are worried about the possibility of glass shattering, we can install Lexan panels instead.
For those who don’t know, Lexan is a polycarbonate resin thermoplastic. Unlike glass, which is made of heated sand, soda ash, and limestone, Lexan is derived from petroleum products. Lexan and similar resin materials can undergo significant stress and deformation without cracking—in other words, they are far more flexible than glass, and can withstand greater impact forces without breaking. This makes Lexan an ideal material for applications in which strength and security are a concern. To give a few examples, many banks use Lexan panels to separate the tellers and vault area from the customers, and public aquariums often build their tank walls out of thick Lexan because it’s stronger and lighter than glass.
